Frequently asked questions

Installation

  • There are several ways to install Chicory!

Prior to installing, please ensure your recipe content is formatted and structured according to schema.org’s guidelines. This will allow our technology to accurately interpret your recipe titles and ingredients for the best user experience. See our dedicated FAQ on this topic.

When you’re ready to install, complete our sign-up form, then choose the best option for your recipe site below.

    1. Install our WordPress plugin, Chicory Shoppable Recipes

Creators that use WordPress to host their recipe sites can enable Chicory by installing our free plugin.

    2. Enable directly within your Mediavine dashboard

Mediavine creators can enable Chicory on their site directly through their Mediavine dashboard. Simply toggle on the Chicory widget to enable ads. For Mediavine questions, please contact publishers@mediavine.com.

    3. Add JavaScript to your recipe pages

If your site does not use WordPress and is not affiliated with Mediavine, you can install our technology directly on your recipe pages. Please refer to page three of our SDK Installation Guide.

  • For our technology to function properly, your recipe content must be marked up and formatted according to schema.org’s guidelines.

Recipe formatting uses rich HTML markup to structure your content in a way that allows search engines to recognize your content as recipe content specifically. Using tags in this manner will enable your recipes to be displayed in more engaging ways, which can help increase conversions to your site.

This markup also allows Chicory to better “parse,” or interpret, your recipes so ingredients can be matched to products in-store. By tagging something as <ingredient> with a proper <measure>, Chicory can make the most efficient and accurate matches possible.

    For Wordpress Users

If your site is hosted through Wordpress, you can simply download a recipe plugin, such as WordPress Recipe Maker, to handle the markup and formatting of your recipe content.

    How to Format Recipes

To ensure your recipes are properly formatted, you can use a tool like RecipesSEO to write your recipe content or reference Schema.org Recipe to mark up recipes on your own in your HTML editor.

  • If you have multiple recipe sites, there is no need to create a separate account for each. Upon registering as a Recipe Partner and completing installation, please email publishers@chicory.co with the URLs of each site. From there, we will combine them into one account for seamless account management.

Advertising

  • While Chicory does not recommend opting out of Chicory Premium campaigns as it will affect your earnings, we understand that it is necessary under certain circumstances. See below for available opt-out solutions:

Campaign-based opt-out: This option allows you to opt out of advertisements based on the promoted brand. To view a list of upcoming Chicory Premium campaigns that may appear on your site, please visit this page. If you’d like to opt-out of a specific campaign, please reach out to publishers@chicory.co.

Specific post opt-outs: This option allows you to opt out specific recipes on your site from featuring Chicory advertising. If you’d like to opt-out of a specific recipe, please reach out to publishers@chicory.co.

  • Our technology is triggered by site traffic and will appear when a site visitor lands on a recipe. All of your recipes will enter our system as users visit those pages. Please note, it may take some time for all of your recipes to import. This process may take up to an hour after you first view the recipe. If you don’t see the Shoppable Recipe button or Chicory Premium advertising within your recipe card after 24 hours, it is possible that your recipes may not be formatted correctly. Visit the dedicated recipe formatting FAQ to learn more.

If the issue persists, please reach out to publishers@chicory.co.
